In Finland at least three somewhat big media outlets, Ilta-Sanomat, MTV3 and Helsingin Sanomat, have held polls asking the Finnish people if they are going to take the swine flu vaccine. The results are as follows.
The first online poll was held by MTV3. It’s unclear how many people took part in it, but 61% said they do not want the swine flu vaccine.
Nearly 12,000 people answered the Helsingin Sanomat gallup, and the overwhelming majority, 75%, answered “No”.
Then a third poll at the end of September held by Ilta-Sanomat rendered the exact same percentage as the Helsingin Sanomat gallup, 75% will not be taking the vaccine. Over 16,000 people took part in the Ilta-Sanomat poll.
So it seems that inspite of intense government and mainstream media propaganda and fear mongering on the swine flu, the Finnish people have not bought the hype. Better luck next time.

I wish the french had the same openmindedness to even talk about vaccinnes, their side effects, and their efficiency. France still has 3 mandatory vaccinations and the pro swine flu vaccine propaganda is huge there.

This result is most surprising when one considers the totally one-sided propaganda fed to the finns by the media outlets.

If the survey really is accurate I am most impressed as at least in my view it seems we finns seem rather gullible in most questions like this.
Indeed. I have not seen many articles or interviews in the Finnish mainstream media that challenges the current swine flu hype, or challenges the effectiveness or safety of these swine flu vaccines. But perhaps that’s why Finns have this attitude? The propaganda is simply too one-sided, not enough controlled opposition to pretend as if there’s a debate.
I am rather surprised my fellow Finns have this attitude against taking the vaccine.
Perhaps our government has lied to us one too many times? Perhaps the media has made a circus out of every issue, so nobody takes them seriously anymore?
I don’t really know, but the signs are promising, maybe Finns are beginning to think for themselves.
I hope this gets circulated wide and far. I think (as a Finn) that this is much better brand building for Finland than any of our foreign minister’s hogwash :-)
It’s positively surprising that Helsingin Sanomat, which is the most prominent newspaper in Finland, would publish this. Kudos to HS!

I’m glad to see that not all of Europe/Scandinavia has bought the pro-H1N1 Vaccine BS.
I know that here in the States most people are convinced that taking the vaccine must be a good thing(not for or by themselves–but because \the Government says so). In fact, my mother is an RN and she says that there will be a mandatory vaccination program for the people who work in healthcare. I myself as a security guard oversaw the unloading of a large shipment of the vaccine from Italy. It scares me to think that one day we might all be \quarantined\ if we refuse to drink the koolaid.

Considering the potential risk of the novel hybrid A/H1N1/09 virus or the vaccine itself, I found the following study strangely coincidental. On June 17, 1996, the U.S. Air Force released Air Force 2025 “a study designed to comply with a directive from the Chief of Staff of the Air Force to examine the concepts, capabilities, and technologies the United States will require to remain the dominant air and space force in the future.” In the unclassified study, the College of Aerospace Doctrine, Research and Education at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama posed several “fictional representations of future situations or scenarios” likely to arise. In Chapter 5, page 55, the authors present a time line figure representing “plausible history”. In 2009, according to the report, influenza will kill 30 million people.
The study also suggests that no one determined if the virus was a natural mutation or bioengineered.

MediaCurves.com conducted a study among 300 Americans viewing a clip of the assistant surgeon general addressing concerns about the H1N1 and seasonal flu vaccines. Results found that parents with children under the age of 18 are more likely to have them vaccinated against the H1N1 virus after viewing a message from the assistant surgeon general. The majority of respondents (70%) reported that they are confident that the H1N1 vaccine is successful in preventing the H1N1 flu.

Yeah Ben, many people will definately ignore all the other evidence presented to them when they hear some so called “expert” authority figure talk on TV. Just give the guy a fancy title and a white lab coat, and people will gobble it up. He could just aswell be a bum from the street with some mediocre acting skills and a fresh haircut.
Come on now children, let’s not be ridiculous, daddy government knows best.
But we’ve already had this happen here in Finland, however people still do not seem to be buying it. Many senior government physicians and medical superintendents have been on TV peddling the same rhetoric about the H1N1 vaccine for several weeks now.
Confidence in the vaccine has not gone up much, if at all. The continous bombardment of propaganda might even be discouraging more people from taking the vaccine.
